Where does time go? This summer has really been going fast!

Well, we have been keeping busy making hay, (You are probably thinking that's all we do, and you are close to right! :-) ) as well as doing chores, and trying to keep all of our equipment in working order. Thursday, we had to fix a bearing on one baler, a bearing holder on another baler, and the thermostat on our bi-directional tractor!

One of my current projects is working on making an informational/promotional DVD for Prairie Days, an annual event put on by our friends, the Dagleys. Here is a little trailer I put together, the DVD will be available for purchase later...

I guess I should finish this post, or it might sit here on my computer for a couple more hours...

Today, I got a Shubb 5th string capo for my Banjo. I had an interesting time mounting it on my banjo, as I hadn't ever done one before, but it worked out fine. I ordered a capo for the other strings as well, but it hasn't come yet... So for now I will have to continue using my Lego one. :)

My new wheels, 2nd edition! :-)

Hello again out there in cyberspace! Once again I haven't written in long time, and I have a lot to say!



We are still busy making hay; it is an all-summer project! We still have about 160 acres of alfalfa to cut, ditches to bale, and a little native prairie to mow, rake, and bale. Then we have to stack all the bales before the plants under the bales die, then we start all over with the second cut on the alfalfa! Here is a picture of some of our bales, after they have been moved in from the field, but before they have been stacked:

She asked me to "Fix It", as the lens would not extend or retract fully, and so was unusable. I was able to take it apart and oil the lens mechanism, and now it works again!


O, getting back to the subject of my post, here is a rather candid shot of me just arriving home in my "New" wheels.

My Brand-New Old-Used truck is a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4x4, in very good condition.






I just HAD to take everybody out for a spin, and Cora caught me driving:





Mom knew I bought a pickup, but she was a little surprised at how nice it is!

Hauling bales

Hello again! It's been a while. :-)

We have been very busy with all of the summer work. Today, dad and I are working on moving hay in to the lot from the fields. Dad has been running the tractor, and I have been driving our grain truck, the sides of which have been removed, and we are using to haul hay. Right now, Dad is working on making a stack so I had a little time, and I thought I would write a little post. :)

I think I will read my book now. (For the Temple, by G. A. Henty; I love his books!)

It's Raining, It's Pouring, The hay machines are snoring!

Ha! A little relaxing time!

Well, as the title states, we got rained out. The last 2 weeks since I posted have been filled with work; Making hay, fixing equipment, making hay, getting the cultivator ready for the sunflowers, making hay, moving the cows, making hay... O, did I mention making hay? :-) and with parties; Braddock's 125th, and Independence Day (i.e. The 4th of July), and our own little campfire with hot dogs and Fireworks on the 5th. ;-)

Even though it rained doesn't mean we don't have work to do. Dad is hauling grain for our neighbors, I have to run (well, drive) up and check the cows soon, and then we have to fix our baler, which has a couple of broken bearings. I also have to work on my thank you's for my graduation, which I still haven't gotten out...

I'm Back!

Hello again, and welcome back!

Once again, I haven't posted in a long time, and you all are wondering what I am doing that is so important that I can't blog. Right? :-)

Well, I have been busy working on getting all of our hay equipment ready for the field, and we actually started cutting hay on Monday. My brother, Jacob, is learning how to cut hay this year, so I have been teaching him how to run the hay header. He already knew how to run our 9030, but had never run it with the hay header on before... Thankfully, he is a quick learner. :-)

We have also been working on the large square baler we just bought.

It is a 2002 Case IH LBX431. It had several little problems with it, and so we have been trying to get it fixed up so we can use it... Our hay should be dry enough to try it out this afternoon or evening, so hopefully it will work good!
